RANCHI – In the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections, Jharkhand has experienced a significant increase in voter registrations, adding 297,223 new voters in just three months.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) in Jharkhand has witnessed a robust turnout of individuals registering to vote, with a total of 361,911 applications submitted during this period, though 55,581 are still pending.
This uptick in registrations reflects a growing eagerness among citizens, especially young adults, to engage in the democratic process. Citizens aged 18 and above have been particularly encouraged to register before the April 25 deadline.
Voters have various channels available for registration, including the submission of Form-6 through Booth Level Officers (BLO) or online via the official website, as well as through the Voter Helpline App.
According to the ECI, Jharkhand now has a total of 2,55,18,642 registered voters, consisting of 1,29,97,325 males, 1,25,20,910 females, and 407 third gender individuals.
The state also shows a dynamic youth involvement, with 808,371 voters aged between 18 and 19. Additionally, there are 322,709 voters aged above 80 and 139,445 aged above 85.
To accommodate the increased voter base, 29,521 polling stations have been established across Jharkhand for the Lok Sabha elections—an increase of 57 stations from the last general election.
The Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand will occur in phases, beginning May 13, with constituencies like Khunti, Singhbhum, Lohardaga, and Palamu voting first. This will be followed by Chatra, Koderma, and Hazaribagh on May 20; Giridih, Dhanbad, Ranchi, and Jamshedpur on May 25; and concluding with Rajmahal, Dumka, and Godda on June 1.
