Cybercrimes Persist in Jharkhand

Fake WhatsApp account of Jharkhand chief secretary used in attempted scam

Despite police efforts, cybercriminals in Jharkhand create a fake account of the chief secretary to defraud people.

RANCHI – The Jharkhand Police’s ongoing battle against cybercrime faces new challenges as cybercriminals continue their fraudulent activities, undeterred by law enforcement efforts.

Recently, a fake WhatsApp account was created using the identity of Jharkhand’s chief secretary, L Khiangte, in an attempt to deceive the public. The fraudulent account, registered under the number 8604244052, aimed to trick individuals into transferring money by posing as the chief secretary.

Cyber thugs are resorting to sophisticated methods, including the creation of counterfeit profiles by misappropriating photographs from individuals’ Facebook and WhatsApp accounts. These fake identities are then used to solicit funds from the contacts of the impersonated victims, exploiting their trust and familiarity.

The persistence of such scams underscores the evolving nature of cybercrime and the importance of public vigilance. The police continue their efforts to curb these digital offenses, emphasizing the need for awareness and caution among internet users to avoid falling prey to these deceitful schemes.
