Marwari Sammelan Sakchi Unit organizes Gangaur Mahotsav on Swarnrekha Banks

Jamshedpur: Gangaur Mahotsav was organized on Swarnrekha river banks at Sakchi on Friday.

The yearly festival of Gangaur Puja occurs on the third day of Navratri, which is Tritiya of Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra.

Unmarried girls and married women observe a fast during the festival while honouring Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati.

Gana, which denotes Lord Shiva, and Gaur, which denotes Parvati, are the roots of the name Gangaur.

Women gather ashes from the holy fire and plant wheat and barley seeds in earthen pots. Seven days later, they utilize these seeds to make vibrant idols of Gauri and Isar.

The celebration, which begins on the second day of Holi and lasts for 16 days, is celebrated because it is said to bring women continuous good fortune.

Women participate in a variety of marital ceremonies and traditions during the Gangaur festival. The event is held in honor of Rati, Kamdev’s wife, who won the favor of Lord Shankar by performing penance and making a prayer to have her husband, who had been consumed by his third eye, resurrected.

She got her request, and Kamdev was resurrected by Lord Shiva.

Women from all parts of the city take part in the mass Gangaur Visarjan programme, which is put on by Marwari Sammelan, as the festival’s grand finale.

They dance, chant, and worship joyfully as they submerge their respective Gangaur and Jawara in the water body.
