JMM Fields Nalin Soren on Dumka Seat Against Sita Soren
JMM nominates Nalin Soren for Dumka, Mathura Prasad Mahto for Giridih in upcoming elections
In a strategic move, JMM nominates its legislators for Dumka and Giridih Lok Sabha seats, marking significant election decisions.
RANCHI – The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has nominated Nalin Soren and Mathura Prasad Mahto for the Dumka and Giridih Lok Sabha seats, respectively.
Vinod Pandey, a JMM central general secretary, announced the nominations, setting the party’s strategy for the elections.
This decision comes amidst earlier speculations that jailed former chief minister Hemant Soren might contest from Dumka, which has now been clarified as not happening.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Sita Soren, a former JMM MLA and Hemant Soren’s sister-in-law, for the Dumka seat, challenging JMM’s stronghold.
Sita Soren’s nomination followed the withdrawal of sitting MP Sunil Soren’s candidature by the BJP, a strategic move considering the constituency’s dynamics.
Sunil Soren had previously secured a victory over JMM president Shibu Soren in the 2019 elections, by a significant margin.
Sita Soren’s shift to the BJP last month marked a notable defection from JMM, citing neglect and isolation within the party post her husband Durga Soren’s death in 2009.
The Congress party and CPI(ML), part of the INDIA bloc, have also announced their candidates for several Lok Sabha seats, including Lohardaga, Khunti, Hazaribagh, and Koderma.
Candidates from Congress include Sukhdev Bhagat for Lohardaga, Kalicharan Munda for Khunti, and JP Patel for Hazaribagh, while CPI(ML) has nominated Vinod Kumar Singh for Koderma.
