Congress Protests Freezing of Party’s Bank Account by IT Department
Anand Bihari Dubey Accuses Modi Government of Targeting Congress Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls
On the call of the All India Congress Committee and Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee, the East Singhbhum District Congress Committee organized a protest demonstration at the District Congress Office under the chairmanship of District President Anand Bihari Dubey.
JAMSHEDPUR – Addressing the protest program, Anand Bihari Dubey, the District President of the Congress party, accused the Modi government of freezing the Congress party’s bank account through the Income Tax Department since last month.
He claimed that instead of the actual amount of Rs 14 lakh 7 thousand, a notice was given to extort more than Rs 3500 crore as a fine.
Dubey criticized the timing of the action, stating that it comes when the Lok Sabha elections have been announced by the Election Commission of India and the nomination process for the first phase has progressed.
Democracy Under Threat, Claims Congress
The Congress leader alleged that the freezing of the party’s bank account and the imposition of fines are being done with the intention of benefiting a particular party, and questioned how democracy will survive in the country if such actions are taken.
He emphasized that freezing the money of any party in a democracy is not in the interest of justice, as every party worker has deposited the money through membership, grants, and contributions from well-wishers.
Dubey accused some people of casting an evil eye on the elections and taking wrong steps to affect the great festival of democracy.
Hundreds Participate in Protest Demonstration
Expressing their anger over the situation, hundreds of Congressmen participated in a dharna and demonstration program at the Congress office, which continued for a long time.
The party had sought permission from the administration to take out a masala procession in the evening, but the request was denied under the election code of conduct, leading to the postponement of the procession at the last moment.
Key Congress Leaders Present at the Protest
The protest demonstration program saw the participation of several prominent Congress leaders, including former District President Ramashray Prasad, District Vice President Awadhesh Singh, Rajkishore Prasad, Ramdas Chaudhary, Ramlal Prasad Paswan, Samarendra Nath Ghosh, special invitees of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee Amarjit Nath Mishra, Suresh Dhari, Jyotish Kumar Yadav, Manoj Jha, Sanjay Tiwari, Women President Nalani Kumari, NSUI President Sachin Kumar Singh, and many others.
