Tragic Jumbo Encounter Claims Life of Odisha Resident, Kin Receive Aid
Wild Elephant Fatality Sparks Compensation Efforts in Remote Hamlet
An Odisha man lost his life after a devastating run-in with a wild elephant this week.
JAMSHEDPUR – Relatives of the deceased were granted an initial financial package of 25,000 rupees, with forestry officials vowing a larger 4 lakh rupee payment.
On Tuesday evening, 64-year-old Dhirai Murmu, a Pokharia Joteyashol resident, was lethally trampled by a jumbo roaming Mutkamkocha Block.
Governing bodies and law enforcement supervised procedures following the deadly incident.
Murmu had been visiting kin in Mutkamkocha when the mammal struck while he was en route to a pond.
Efforts to rush the severely injured man to a hospital were hampered by dilapidated roads, forcing an ambulance to abort around 2 kilometers shy.
The body was dispatched for an autopsy examination after Murmu perished at home hours later.
Forestry staff were alerted immediately and deployed at daybreak to the location.
Though bystanders tried scaring off the rampaging elephant, Murmu suffered ultimately fatal wounds.
