Tata Steel’s commitment to biodiversity conservation at its Sukinda Chromite Mine earns prestigious recognition at the CII ITC Sustainability Awards.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel’s holistic approach towards environmental conservation and biodiversity management at its Sukinda Chromite Mine has been recognized with the "Excellence in Biodiversity" award at the 18th CII ITC Sustainability Awards, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainable practices and ecological preservation.

The award, presented at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi, highlights Tata Steel’s initiatives in biodiversity conservation, including community awareness programmes and sustainable environmental practices in and around the mine’s operational area.

Pankaj Satija, Executive-In-Charge of Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD), expressed gratitude for the recognition, reaffirming the company’s dedication to strengthening biodiversity management and undertaking numerous sustainability initiatives for environmental conservation.

Community initiatives like the Prajatiya Khadyotsav, Green Therapy, Jaibakala Vividhata, Sarjom Baa, and conservation measures such as the Butterfly Garden and Medicinal Park have been pivotal in Tata Steel’s successful biodiversity conservation efforts at the Sukinda Mine.

Devraj Tiwari, Head of Mining at the Sukinda Chromite Mine, accepted the award on behalf of Tata Steel, marking a significant acknowledgment of the company’s sustained efforts towards preserving biodiversity.

The award was conferred by Sanjiv Puri, Chairman and Managing Director of ITC Limited and President-Designate of CII, at a ceremony attended by industry leaders and sustainability experts.

Tata Steel’s Sukinda Chromite Mine, part of the company’s Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division, has been lauded for its outstanding efforts in biodiversity conservation, showcasing the impact of responsible corporate citizenship in the mining sector.
