Kalpana Soren Visits Giridih, Likely to Be Fielded on Gandey Seat

Speculations of Her Candidacy for Gandey By-Poll Arise

Kalpana Murmu Soren, spouse of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and JMM Working President Hemant Soren, arrived in Giridih on Wednesday to an enthusiastic reception from party supporters, sparking speculation about her potential candidacy for the upcoming Gandey by-poll.

RANCHI – Kalpana Murmu Soren, wife of former Jharkhand chief minister and JMM working president Hemant Soren, received a warm welcome from party supporters upon her arrival in Giridih on Wednesday.

By-election is going to be held on Gandey assembly seat along with Lok Sabha 2024. Voting for Gandey Assembly seat is scheduled in in the fifth phase on May 20.

It is learnt that the visit is aimed at holding talks with party workers and leaders in preparation for the by-poll.

Significantly, Gandey assembly seat fell vacant after resignation of Sarfaraz Ahmed last year.

Kalpana Soren was accompanied by cabinet minister Baby Devi, Giridih MLA Sudivya Kumar Sonu, Rajya Sabha MP Dr Sarfaraz Ahmed and many Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leaders.

She then reached Jhargatta also in the Gandey assembly constituency and attended a program.

She directly reached Bengabad which falls under Gandey assembly constituency and met the wife of deceased party leader and former MLA Salkhan Soren. She talked with the wife for a long time.

Kalpana Soren was on a two-day visit to the district.

Incidentally, there are talks of Kalpana Soren being fielded by the party for the Gandey by-poll which comes under the Giridih district. However, there are no official confirmation on this.
