Sikh Culture Celebrated at Dastar Muqabla in Jamshedpur
Jamshedpur’s Youth Showcase Dastar Artistry in Cultural Event
The Dastar Muqabla event at Sakchi Gurudwara highlights Sikh traditions and fosters community pride among participants.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Dastar Muqabla, a vibrant celebration of Sikh culture, was recently held at the Sakchi Gurudwara in Jamshedpur, showcasing the art of turban tying among Sikh children and youth.
Organized by the Sunny Bhangra Group and Royal Decor, the event featured competitions in various styles such as Wattanawali, Patialashahi, and Morni.
Balpreet Singh Senior and Samarpreet Singh took top honors in the Junior group’s doubles match, while Arjun Singh won the Dumala match.
With 235 participants, the Dastar Decoration Competition demonstrated the community’s dedication to preserving this cultural practice.
The event, judged by Dastar coach Jaswant Singh Jassu and a panel of experts, emphasized the technical skill and creativity involved in turban tying.
Nishan Singh, head of Sakchi Gurudwara, highlighted the Dastar’s significance as a symbol of good character and maturity within Sikhism.
The presence of dignitaries such as Takht Sri Patna Sahib General Secretary Sardar Inderjit Singh and CGPC Chairman Sardar Shailendra Singh elevated the occasion, offering encouragement and recognition to the participants.
Winners across various categories were celebrated for their talent and commitment to Sikh traditions:
– Senior Dastar Competition: Balpreet Singh
– Junior Dastar Competition: Samarpreet Singh, Mankirat Singh, Harshpreet Singh
– Independent Dumala Competition: Arjun Singh, Sarandeep Singh, Jagroop Singh, Simran Kaur
The success of the Dastar Muqabla was credited to the efforts of organizers and community members like Sukhwant Singh Sukhu and Balbir Singh, among others.
