14 Wins for Tata Steel in Mining Excellence and Sustainability

Tata Steel showcases commitment to sustainable mining with 14 awards at the 25th MEMC event in Bhubaneswar.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel’s operational excellence and commitment to sustainability were honored with 14 awards at the 25th Mine Environment and Mineral Conservation (MEMC) Week 2023-24.

The event took place in Bhubaneswar, under the Indian Bureau of Mines’ Bhubaneswar region’s sponsorship.

It spotlighted the company’s dedication to advanced technology for raw material efficiency and conservation.

Globally recognized for its sustainable mining practices, Tata Steel upholds the highest international standards.

The awards underscored the company’s efforts across its Odisha mines, including iron ore and manganese operations.

Notably, Tata Steel’s Joda West Manganese and other mines received accolades for their environmental and conservation efforts in Group-4.

The Sukinda Chromite mine stood out with a first-place win in Waste Dump Management.

Piyush Narayan Sharma, Chief Controller of Mines at IBM, presented the awards during the ceremony.

The event was graced by notable officials from the mining sector and government, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices in the industry.

Tata Steel’s Joda East Iron Ore Mine was particularly celebrated, receiving the top honor in Overall Performance in the Group-1 category.

This mine also secured first prizes in Mineral Beneficiation and Sustainable Development.

Other Tata Steel mines, including Khondbond and Katamati, were recognized for their achievements in Mineral Beneficiation, and Reclamation and Rehabilitation, showcasing the breadth of the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
