Tata Steel Honoured with 2024 Franz Edelman Finalist Award by INFORMS, USA

Recognition for Excellence in Industrial Applications of Operations Research and Analytics

Tata Steel has been awarded the prestigious Franz Edelman Finalist Award by the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS), USA.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel received the esteemed Franz Edelman Finalist Award during the INFORMS Business Analytics Conference 2024 in Orlando, USA, on April 15, 2024.

This award celebrates excellence in the industrial application of operations research and analytics.

Tata Steel’s project on the optimisation of the continuous annealing process earned them this recognition.

The project was selected after a rigorous three-month assessment by INFORMS Society assessors.

Continuous annealing is crucial for controlling the quality of cold-rolled steel strips through heat treatment.

The project led to significant improvements in quality, reduced specific fuel consumption, and decreased CO2 emissions.

Tata Steel’s team, with support from IIT Bombay, implemented this innovative solution.

This achievement places Tata Steel among other global finalists like American Airlines, McDonald’s China, ALDI Süd Germany, Molslinjen Denmark, and Transvision Netherlands.

During the Edelman Gala night, Tata Steel and IIT Bombay were inducted into the prestigious Franz Edelman Academy.

This membership signifies a distinguished contribution to the field of analytics.

It also inspires other organisations to explore opportunities for improvement through innovative applications of analytics.
