JMM Enforces Bandh in Sahibganj Against ED’s Action on CM Soren

RANCHI – In a significant political development in Jharkhand, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has escalated its stand against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) ahead of the agency’s questioning of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
JMM workers enforced a 9-hour bandh in Sahibganj, demonstrating the party’s warning of rising public anger against the ED.
This regional unrest comes amidst recent attacks on ED teams in West Bengal, highlighting a growing tension between state entities and central agencies.
JMM activists, protesting against the Central Investigation Agency, disrupted traffic and forced the closure of shops in various places in Sahibganj.
The bandh was notably effective in Barhait, the Chief Minister’s own constituency.
ED’s summons to CM Soren, issued on January 13, requested his availability for questioning from January 16 to 20, to which Soren agreed for January 20 at his residence.
JMM Sahibganj District President Shahjahan Ansari emphasized the peaceful nature of the bandh, noting public support and exemptions for essential services like ambulances and milk vans.
Ansari accused the BJP of orchestrating harassment against the Chief Minister and justified the bandh as a form of protest against these actions.
JMM General Secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya also voiced concerns over the ED’s approach, warning of severe consequences if the agency fails to heed the public’s anger.
Bhattacharya’s call for ED to maintain factual, transparent, and clear operations reflects a broader demand for accountability and fairness in the agency’s actions.
This escalating confrontation between JMM and the ED signifies a complex dynamic in Jharkhand’s political landscape, marked by deepening divisions and increasing public sentiment.
