Another accomplishment in the realm of patents for CMPDI
RANCHI: An improved and highly economical apparatus for measuring the velocity of detonation of various types of explosives and initiators and scattering/delay time of accessory product was invented, and for that, a patent certificate was issued by the Patent Office, Government of India to CMPDI (Blasting Cell) Ranchi and IIT-Kharagpur.
The 20-year patent has been obtained.
The filing date of this patent was September 23, 2013. After ten years, on December 13, 2023, this was accomplished. Twenty years from the date of filing, the patent is awarded. This apparatus allows for the precise measurement of detonation velocity.
With the use of this equipment and technique, blast optimization for a specific set of geo-mining circumstances will be possible, and blast designs will be more assured.
When the patent application was filed, Dr. AK Jha, the then-senior manager of mining at CMPDI, served as the project leader while SC Kar, the then-chief manager of mining at the institute, coordinated the project.
Blasting Cell of CMPDI was the Principal Implementing Agency (PIA) in this project. IIT-Kharagpur was the sub-implementing agency under the direction of Dr. B. Deb.
The post-blast performance of explosives and related items is significantly dependent on the quality of the explosives and accessories. dependable, premium explosives for drilling, blasting, and starting patterns to lower the overall production costs under the “mill concept” from the current mine taking into account post-blasting sub-system utilization, such as loading, transportation, and transportation. Additionally, using supplementary goods makes sense.
Development of indigenous equipment to assure quality of explosives and accessories would enhance techno-economics of blast performance. The mine’s economics will improve overall.
Given the current coal shortage and growing demand, developing domestic explosives and accessory detection equipment will improve mine economics overall by improving blasting performance dependability, efficacy, and efficiency, which will benefit CIL and the coal industry as a whole. There will be advantages as well.
Prior to this, in December 2022, CMPDI was awarded its first patent for its creative work on “a system and method for controlling the generation and transmission of fugitive dust.” The patent demonstrates the technological prowess of CMPDI.
