Jaishankar in Russia: Major Nuclear Power Plant Deals Signed

In a significant development, India and Russia have inked crucial agreements for the Kudankulam nuclear power plant, deepening their long-standing partnership.
WORLD DESK – External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, on his five-day visit to Russia, announced the signing of pivotal agreements related to the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu.
These agreements, focused on constructing future power units at the Kudankulam plant, underscore the deepening cooperation between India and Russia in the nuclear energy sector.
Jaishankar highlighted this collaboration during a community address, emphasizing the plant’s role in strengthening bilateral ties.
The Kudankulam nuclear power plant, a significant project being developed with Russian technical assistance, represents a cornerstone in India-Russia energy relations.
Jaishankar lauded Russia as a “special partner,” particularly in areas like defense, nuclear power, and space, attributing these collaborations to a high degree of mutual trust.
Further cementing the partnership, Jaishankar revealed that India and Russia have agreed to commence in-person negotiations by the end of January on a free trade agreement between India and the Eurasian Economic Zone.
This move towards negotiating a free trade agreement demonstrates the commitment of both nations to expand their economic and strategic ties.
The agreements and upcoming trade talks reflect the robust and multi-dimensional relationship India shares with Russia, particularly at a time when global alliances and partnerships are rapidly evolving.
