NIT Jamshedpur Alumnus and Ex-Unacademy COO Raises Funds

Ex-Unacademy COO Vivek Sinha’s Edutech startup secures $11M funding, focusing on healthcare workforce upskilling.

JAMSHEDPUR – Vivek Sinha, a distinguished alumnus of NIT Jamshedpur and the former Chief Operating Officer of the edtech giant Unacademy, has made headlines by securing a substantial $11 million in funding for his new Edutech startup.

Sinha’s venture, which was officially registered in September, is set to revolutionize the upskilling of the healthcare workforce.

This funding round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Matrix Partners, with significant contributions from notable angel investors, including Oyo group CEO Ritesh Agarwal and Unacademy CEO Gaurav Munjal.

Sinha’s educational journey began at NIT Jamshedpur, followed by advanced studies at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.

His impressive career includes key roles at OYO and Mobikwik, and as COO at Unacademy, he played a pivotal role in its rapid growth in the edtech sector.

Under Sinha’s leadership, Unacademy achieved its first positive cash flow month in June 2023, despite reporting a net loss of ₹2,848 crore in FY22.

Sinha’s departure from Unacademy in August marked a significant transition in his career, as he moved to leverage his extensive experience in the burgeoning field of educational technology.

His new startup is poised to address the critical need for upskilling in the healthcare sector, reflecting the resilience of the upskilling and higher education segments in securing funding amidst challenging financial climates.
