Jallianwala Bagh Express Cancellation Plans Spark Protests, Sikh Community Delegation Demands Reversal
A Sikh community Delegation in Tatanagar has strongly protested the cancellation of the Jallianwala Bagh Express, citing concerns of discrimination and demanding immediate action.
JAMSHEDPUR – The cancellation of the Jallianwala Bagh Express from Tatanagar to Amritsar from 4th December to 1st March by the Railway Management has sparked significant dissatisfaction among the Sikh community memebers.
Scheduled from 4th December to 1st March, the train’s cancellation is due to foggy conditions.
Members of the Sikh community gathered at Tatanagar Railway Station to voice their discontent.
A memorandum was submitted to the Station Director, demanding the withdrawal of this decision and threatening fierce agitation if not addressed.
Protesters raised slogans against the railway management and accused the government of discriminatory treatment towards Sikhs.
Bhagwan Singh, head of the Central Gurdwara Management Committee, criticized the annual cancellation of the train, highlighting the impact on economically disadvantaged families.
He emphasized the lack of alternative affordable transportation options for poorer sections wanting to travel to Amritsar.
The community leader also pointed out the absence of specific government schemes for Sikhs in Jharkhand, despite a significant Sikh population in the region.
Singh warned of escalated protests, including potential train stoppages and street demonstrations, if the train cancellation was not revoked.
