As Durga Puja 2023 comes to a close in Jamshedpur, organized immersion processions, traditional rituals and security measures paint a vivid tapestry of emotions and duty.

JAMSHEDPUR – The air is tinged with a blend of joy and melancholy as Durga Puja, a festival symbolizing the victory of good over evil, concludes its 2023 chapter.

Today marks the tenth day, known as Vijayadashami, which culminated in the ceremonial immersion of Goddess Durga’s idols.

On Wednesday, the district administration executed a well-planned immersion process.

Devotees congregated at various immersion ghats where zonal magistrates and police officers had been instructed to supervise the event in an organized manner.

In Jamshedpur, the ritual of Sindoor Khela, or “playing with vermilion,” dominated the scene in the morning in all pandals.

Married women gathered since morning to honor the goddess with vermilion and other traditional offerings.

Sindoor Khela, a ritual rooted in the Bengali tradition, sees women applying vermilion to each other.

It’s believed that this practice assures the longevity of their husbands.

According to cultural beliefs, Goddess Durga visits her maternal home during Navratri.

The ten days are a festive return to her parents, and like any daughter, she is showered with love and affection.

Earlier, on Monday, the Deputy Commissioner had appealed to the puja committees to conduct immersions in a harmonious environment.

Today, idols were immersed according to the time slots allotted.

The administration had implemented multiple safety measures, including barricading, life jackets, and CCTV surveillance, ensuring a smooth and secure experience for all.
