Former Ambassador Sanjay Bhattacharyya Sheds Light on India’s Agenda for G20 Presidency at University Connect Program

G20 University Connect event at XLRI Jamshedpur highlights India’s key focus areas for G20 Summit 2023, including climate change and digital economy, as the country assumes presidency.

JAMSHEDPUR – As India prepares to host the G-20 Summit this year, the Ministry of External Affairs, in collaboration with Research and Information System for Developing Countries, organized a G20 Connect event at XLRI Jamshedpur on Wednesday evening.

Former Ambassador Sanjay Bhattacharyya was the chief guest at the event, revealing the core focus areas for the upcoming summit under the theme "Vasudev Kutumbakam – One World, One Family."

The distinguished ambassador shared insights into India’s presidency, emphasizing the importance of green development, climate finance, inclusive growth, and the digital economy.

He noted that the G20 member states, which include 19 countries and the European Union, account for approximately 85% of global GDP and over 75% of global trade.

"These nations collectively house nearly two-thirds of the world’s population, making the agenda and outcomes of the summit critical," he stated.

XLRI Director Father S George also addressed the gathering, outlining the institute’s 75-year history and the need for collaborative efforts among G20 nations in tackling global challenges like energy, climate, and security.

Students who won various competitions were rewarded, and Mr. Bhattacharyya took questions, further elaborating on India’s role on the global stage.

Mr. Bhattacharyya conveyed that India is on a trajectory to become a global leader, focusing on engaging the youth as brand ambassadors to raise awareness about India’s pivotal role in international affairs.

He elaborated on the duties of citizens in contributing to national progress and how India can be a linchpin in achieving global equity and sustainable development.
