Tata Steel Mining MD, Pankaj Satija, Wins Prestigious National Geoscience Award 2022

The MD of Tata Steel Mining, Pankaj Satija, receives National Geoscience Award 2022 for his significant achievements in sustainable mineral development and mineral beneficiation.

JAMSHEDPUR – The leading-edge approach of Pankaj Satija led to the establishment of numerous firsts in the industry.

Notably, Noamundi was the first to introduce the Drone Application for Mine Monitoring, setting a precedent for the use of drones in the Indian mining industry.

In addition, the Sustainable Development Framework (SDF) was first launched at the Sukinda Chromite mine, creating the foundation for mine star ratings.

Moreover, the Joda East iron ore mine in India was recognized as the first to plant vetiver.

Satija expressed gratitude towards the Ministry of Mines for their support and reasserted his commitment to developing sustainable mining methodologies, stating he was "humbled and extremely delighted" to be the recipient of the distinguished National Geoscience Award.

This esteemed award, established by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, is testament to Satija’s exceptional accomplishments and leadership in the fields of geoscience and mining.

Present at the award ceremony were eminent dignitaries from the Government of India, including Hon. Secretary, Ministry of Mines Vivek Bharadwaj, Hon. State Minister of Mines, Coal and Railways Raosaheb Patil Danve, and Hon. Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi.

Satija received the award from the Honourable President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi, in recognition of his ceaseless efforts in mineral beneficiation and sustainable mineral development.
