Saryu Roy Appears in Chaibasa Court in Corona Incentive Defamation Case, Granted Bail
MLA Saryu Roy appears in Special MP-MLA court in Chaibasa for the incentive money defamation case and was granted bail.
JAMSHEDPUR – Saryu Roy, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Jamshedpur East Assembly Constituency, showed up at court today, on July 21, 2023. This appearance came about in connection with a defamation lawsuit filed by the state Health Minister Banna Gupta.
The legal action started when Mr. Roy voiced opposition to Minister Banna Gupta’s decision to award incentive money to himself and his office staff, excluding the Corona Warriors, during the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, Minister Gupta initiated a slander lawsuit against Mr. Roy in a special court.
The court then instructed MLA Saryu Roy to make an appearance, marking what is legally referred to as the complaint case’s ‘appearance’ phase.
Normally, when a defendant receives a summons from the court, this information is recorded. However, according to Mr. Roy, neither he nor his offices had any record of receiving the summons, which was not noted in the court’s records either.
To further progress the case, the court issued a bailable warrant to ensure Saryu’s presence.
On Friday, Saryu Roy, along with his lawyers Aninda Mishra, Sourav Sinha, Prateek Sharma, and Mahadev Sharma, made an appearance before the Chaibasa Special Court.
After the completion of the appearance stage, the court proceeded to the next step, granting Mr. Roy bail.
