JAMSHEDPUR – The Kapali O.P. police in Seraikela district, adjacent to Jamshedpur, successfully rescued Sunil Kumar Prasad of Kadma Bhatia Basti within 24 hours of his abduction and reunited him with his family.
Police have arrested three kidnappers, Dheeraj Balar, Suraj Prakash Jha, and Dilip Mahato, and placed them in judicial custody on Thursday.
According to Kapali O.P. in-charge Sonu Kumar, Sunil Kumar Prasad and the three accused were friends. In 2023, Sunil Kumar Prasad had borrowed Rs 2 lakh from Dheeraj Balar of Mango Jawahar Nagar Road No. 15 and Rs 56,000 from Dilip Mahato of Ulidih in Mango to buy a mobile phone for his wife.
The friends had been demanding repayment for several months. When Sunil failed to repay, they planned his abduction.
On Tuesday, they lured Sunil to the Dobo Bridge and kidnapped him using a white Innova Creta (JH05DQ-3397), taking him to a garage in Baliguma.
They then went to Ghatshila for dinner, spending the night in an open field nearby.
On Wednesday morning, as the kidnappers were preparing for the day, the police swiftly arrested them and rescued Sunil Kumar Prasad. The police also recovered three mobile phones and the vehicle used in the kidnapping.
A local expressed his relief, stating, “We are grateful to the police for their prompt action and rescuing the victim. This instils confidence in everyone about the police presence.”
Today, the police have sent the three accused to judicial custody.
