Convict Fined Rs 20,000 Under POCSO Act for Heinous Crime Committed in Manjhari Police Station Area

In a resounding verdict, the Additional Sessions Judge-I of Chaibasa Civil Court has sentenced accused to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 for the heinous crime of raping a minor girl in the Manjhari police station area.

CHAIBASA – Bringing justice to the victim, the court has convicted one accused under Section 04 (2) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, ensuring a stringent punishment for the appalling offense committed on September 2, 2020.

The incident, which sent shockwaves through the community, occurred within the jurisdiction of the Manjhari police station in the Chaibasa district, prompting an immediate investigation by local authorities.

Following a thorough probe, the Chaibasa police apprehended accused, and he was subsequently placed in judicial custody to await trial.

The police diligently gathered scientific evidence to build a strong case against the accused, ultimately submitting a comprehensive charge sheet to the court.

On Saturday, May 4, the Additional Sessions Judge-I of Chaibasa Civil Court delivered the much-awaited judgment, convicting accused of the heinous crime and sentencing him to a lengthy prison term of 25 years.

The court also imposed a substantial fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict, further emphasizing the gravity of his offense and the consequences of such reprehensible acts.
