Decaying Parsudih Market Building’s Overhang Collapses, No Casualties

Early morning overhang collapse in Jamshedpur’s Parsudih market alarms locals, underscores pressing need for steps to avoid further damage and loss of lives.

JAMSHEDPUR – The collapse of a balcony from an aging building in the Parsudih market of Jamshedpur caused a stir across the market today.

Thankfully, due to the early hour of the incident, no casualties were reported, and property damage was minimal.

The Agricultural Market Committee had previously declared the building unsafe, issuing notices to 198 shopkeepers to vacate the premises.

However, the shopkeepers have resisted, calling instead for repairs to be made to the upper part of the building to prevent displacement of businesses located on the lower floors.

The collapse of the balcony amid this ongoing dispute has heightened concerns about the safety of the structure.

One shopkeeper, speaking about the incident, confirmed that while the balcony’s collapse resulted in the destruction of goods in his shop, no lives were lost.

He also highlighted that a significant catastrophe was narrowly avoided today.

If the dispute over the building’s safety and repairs is not resolved soon, fears are that a more devastating incident could occur.
