PM Awas Yojana Workers to Strike over Lack of Insurance, EPF Benefits

27 workers associated with Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in East Singhbhum district plan a symbolic strike protesting against the non-implementation of insurance and EPF facilities.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a new development, the Rajya Awas Karmi Sangh, an organization of workers involved with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, has declared a symbolic strike.

Workers from East Singhbhum district, along with the entire state, will participate in this strike from July 17 to 20.

This decision was made at the state level and communicated by district members including Suman Mishra, Jitesh Kumar Singh, and Chandan Kumar Jha.

As a result of the strike, District Coordinator, Training Coordinator, and Accountant cum Computer Operator will cease work.

The decision comes in the wake of the fatal shooting of Seraj Ansari, a Block Coordinator from Bhavnathpur in Garhwa district.

The state president of the union expressed disappointment in a letter to the president and secretary of the districts, noting that despite approval for health insurance and Employee Provident Fund (EPF) for housing workers six months ago by the Minister of Rural Development, no action has been taken to implement these measures.

He pointed out that if such benefits had been in place, Seraj Ansari’s family would have been entitled to them.

Due to the lack of these benefits, the union has directed workers to strike for three days and stage protests at district headquarters.
