MLA Saryu Roy Calls for Uniform Civil Code to Be an “Umbrella” for All Castes and Religions
Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy has weighed in on the national debate surrounding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), advocating for a UCC that encompasses all castes and religions.
JAMSHEDPUR – Amid a national debate about the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Saryu Roy, MLA from Jamshedpur East and a prominent political figure, has expressed his opinion on the matter.
Roy, known as the "Chanakya of Politics," argues that he supports a Uniform Civil Court, but it should be framed as an umbrella under which people of all castes and religions can adhere to the constitution.
In addition, he notes that there’s widespread confusion about the UCC, suggesting that the central government or the responsible agency working on the UCC should provide clear and concise information about what it entails to eliminate any misconceptions among the public.
Furthermore, Roy addresses the uncertainty among Jamshedpur’s residents regarding the status of their city.
He proposes the formation of a Coordinating Committee involving the Jamshedpur Notified Area and Tata Steel to ensure civic amenities are provided to residents until it becomes clear whether an Industrial Town or Municipal Corporation will be formed.
