Baby Devi, widow of Jharkhand’s late Education Minister Jagarnath Mahto, is set to be sworn in as a minister in the Hemant Soren cabinet on July 3.
RANCHI – Baby Devi, wife of the late Jagarnath Mahto, the former state education minister, is ready to step into the Jharkhand government’s ministerial role.
According to reliable sources, Baby Devi is confirmed to assume a ministerial position, though the specific department she will oversee remains uncertain.
However, it is known that Baby Devi will be sworn in as a minister on July 3.
Ending Speculation
Following the passing of the former Jharkhand Education Minister, the late Jagarnath Mahto, there were speculations that a member of his family would be offered a ministerial position.
Uncertainty revolved around whether his wife, Baby Devi, or Akhilesh Mahto would be chosen.
As of now, it is confirmed that Baby Devi will be sworn in as a minister at the Raj Bhavan on July 3, putting an end to the speculations.
At this time, no official announcement has been made.
Department Assignment Unclear
The specific department to be assigned to Baby Devi is yet to be confirmed.
Late Jagarnath Mahto was the education and product minister, leading to speculations that Baby Devi might take over one of these roles.
However, several other departments could potentially be entrusted to her, making it uncertain which responsibility will fall to Baby Devi.
Meetings with Shibu Soren and Hemant Soren
In the second week of June, Baby Devi held meetings with JMM supremo Shibu Soren and Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
At that time, discussions were centered around two potential candidates, but it is now clear that Baby Devi will assume the ministerial position.
Remembering Jagarnath Mahto
Jharkhand Education Minister Jagarnath Mahto passed away on April 6.
He was a prominent JMM MLA from the Dumri constituency and actively participated in the separate statehood movement led by Shibhu Soren.
After contracting Covid-19 in 2020, he underwent a lung transplant but fell ill again during the recent Jharkhand budget session.
He was airlifted to Chennai for treatment, where he ultimately passed away.
