In a significant development, the MP-MLA Court in Jamshedpur dismisses the defamation case filed by Banna Gupta against MLA Saryu Roy.
JAMSHEDPUR – MLA Saryu Roy can breathe a sigh of relief as the MP-MLA Court in Jamshedpur has dismissed the defamation case lodged against him by Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta.
The court’s verdict came after a thorough examination of the facts and concluded that sections 499/500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 66 of the IT Act cannot be invoked against Saryu Roy.
The decision has been hailed as a victory for justice by Roy and his supporters.
Allegations and Registration of the Defamation Case
MLA Saryu Roy had leveled accusations against Banna Gupta, alleging the possession of a banned pistol.
Subsequently, a defamation case was filed against Roy by Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta at the MP-MLA Court in Chaibasa, West Singhbhum. Gupta vehemently denied the allegations, stating that Roy’s claims were baseless and had tarnished his reputation, character, and standing in society.
A notice was issued to Saryu Roy through advocate Prakash Jha on behalf of Minister Banna Gupta.
Roy’s Response and the Court Proceedings
In response to the notice, Saryu Roy dismissed it, expressing his lack of concern and stating that he would not be intimidated by such legal actions.
The case proceeded to court, where the statement of Health Minister Banna Gupta was recorded before Judicial Officer Rishi Kumar, along with the presentation of relevant facts.
After careful consideration, the MP-MLA Court at Chaibasa deemed the case baseless and dismissed it.
