Jamshedpur – Unlawful sand excavation from various ghats along the Subarnarekha river in the Baharagora block has come under the spotlight. Sand extraction and transportation by tractors has been occurring openly during the day.
On receiving this information, Station Officer Santan Kumar Tiwari and Circle Officer Jitram Murmu promptly swung into action with their police force on Saturday.
A raid resulted in the seizure of two tractors filled with illegally mined sand on the main road near Keola.
The drivers of both tractors managed to evade arrest, abandoning their vehicles in the process. The seized tractors, one Sonalika model and one John Deere model, were packed with sand. These tractors were taken to the police station.
The vehicles, loaded with sand, were en route from Chowringhee to Bahragora when intercepted.
Efforts are currently underway to identify the owners and drivers of both tractors. This decisive action from the administration has unsettled the local illegal sand trading community.
