JAMSHEDPUR – The prestigious Durand Cup trophy was unveiled at XLRI auditorium in a grand ceremony attended by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar and Education Minister Ramdas Soren.

The event marked the official launch of the 134th Durand Cup 2025. Governor Gangwar served as chief guest for the ceremony. Minister Soren attended as distinguished guest for the occasion.

The Indian Armed Forces organized the ceremony with Jharkhand government support. District Collector Karn Satyarthi attended the prestigious event. Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey also joined the gathering.

Sports Director of Jharkhand Shekhar Jamuar participated in the ceremony. Army officers Mohit Malhotra and Paramjit Singh Dagar represented the defense forces. Tata Steel officials and numerous sports enthusiasts attended the function.

Governor Gangwar called the tournament a moment of pride for the state. He emphasized that such events promote sports culture across Jharkhand. The international event will provide valuable learning opportunities for youth.

“Football is popular among all sections of society,” the governor stated. Moreover, sports teach unity, discipline and team spirit values. The tournament will channel youth energy in positive directions.

The governor highlighted government efforts to develop sports infrastructure. Both central and state governments work to nurture talent through sports. India has also bid to host the 2036 Olympics.

Many Jharkhand youth have made their mark internationally and nationally. Strong sports culture will boost tourism and employment opportunities. The governor encouraged more youth to showcase their sporting talents.

Minister Soren praised the state’s new sports policy initiatives. The government continuously makes decisions to encourage sports development. Having prestigious tournaments like Durand Cup brings pride to the state.

“Several talented players from Jharkhand have brought glory to the state,” Soren noted. However, the government remains committed to supporting sports growth. All participating teams received best wishes from the minister.

The ceremony featured cultural performances celebrating national unity. Artists presented folk dances and songs from various regions. Jharkhand’s rich culture was showcased through Chhau and Santhali dances.

Army personnel performed Punjab’s popular Bhangra dance. The cultural program highlighted India’s diverse traditions beautifully. All dignitaries received footballs as honorary gifts during the event.

Jamshedpur has been selected as host city for the second time. The 134-year-old tournament brings immense pride to entire Jharkhand. JRD Tata Sports Complex will host all matches.

Competition will run from July 24 to August 11, 2025. Four teams will participate in the Jamshedpur leg. Jamshedpur FC will represent the host city.

Indian Army FT will compete in the tournament. Tribhuvan Army FC from Nepal joins the competition. Additionally, 1 Ladakh FC completes the four-team lineup.

Trophy tours are being conducted on July 7 and 8. Various areas of Jamshedpur city will witness the trophy. Sports enthusiasts are showing tremendous excitement for these tours.

The tournament represents the world’s third-oldest football competition. British military officers established it in 1888 in India. The competition has maintained its prestigious status throughout decades.

Local administration has made extensive preparations for the event. Security arrangements ensure smooth conduct of all matches. The tournament promises to boost Jamshedpur’s sporting reputation further.
