Governor Advocates Massive Tree Plantation to Secure Future Generations’ Safety

Plant trees for a safer future. Increase tree plantation as transport methods grow, for environmental balance: Governor’s call for green efforts.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Jharkhand Governor, C.P. Radhakrishnan, stressed the importance of environmental protection as a paramount challenge to the world during a program at K.N.J. High School, Chakulia. The program was facilitated by the Forest Management and Conservation General Committee and Johar Bharat Federation.

He emphasized that environmental imbalance, leading to adverse weather conditions like droughts, extreme heat, and irregular heavy rainfall, impacts millions, primarily due to unregulated exploitation of natural resources and other factors.

Environment Protection: An Urgent Issue

Uncontrolled garbage disposal, unchecked industrialization, indiscriminate pesticide usage, and lack of scientific approach and information were identified as the main causes for the current environmental crisis. He acknowledged the necessity of industrial development and transport means expansion to meet the escalating population’s needs, but he also underscored the critical need for tree plantation growth in equal measure.

Ground Water Level & Industrial Development

Governor Radhakrishnan pointed out the dwindling ground water levels, which has become a pressing issue in various districts. He asked the Deputy Commissioner and Irrigation Department officials to speed up the pending water harvesting projects. Furthermore, he stated that our state, rich in mineral wealth, can prosper if these resources are harnessed thoughtfully, with a keen emphasis on maintaining environmental balance.

Emphasizing the Role of Organizations in Environment Conservation

The Governor lauded the environmental efforts undertaken by various organizations from June 5 to June 17. He singled out Padma Shri Smt. Jamuna Tudu for her significant contribution to environmental conservation, an effort that has also been applauded by the Prime Minister. On ‘World Environment Day‘, the Governor, along with NSS volunteers, planted over 50 saplings at Raj Bhavan. His goal is to ensure the plantation of over 1 crore saplings in the coming year, with 90% of them being fruit-bearing plants.

Call to Action for the Public

The Governor urged everyone to plant more trees, securing the future of coming generations. He stated that it is necessary for everyone to participate in protecting the environment. To preserve the environment, he suggested carrying a cloth bag while shopping and planting saplings on auspicious family occasions. The event ended with the Governor honoring Shreya and Kunal, the 10th class state and district toppers, respectively, from Chakulia, as well as individuals who have contributed to environmental protection and other social work.
