Local Talent Prosenjit Paul Advances to Pre-Quarterfinals in Tata Steel AITA Men’s National Ranking Tennis Tournament 2023

Jamshedpur’s Prosenjit Paul stages a comeback to win his opening match and enter the pre-quarterfinals in the Tata Steel AITA Men’s National Ranking Tennis Tournament 2023.

JAMSHEDPUR – Local player Prosenjit Paul emerged victorious in the opening match of the Tata Steel AITA Men’s National Ranking 1 Lac Prize Money Tennis Tournament 2023, currently taking place at the JRD Tata Sports Complex’s synthetic courts.

Paul, a recognized name in junior state-level tennis, rebounded after losing the first set 4-6 to equalize the match. In a tightly contested second set, Paul managed to outlast Tamil Nadu’s Sagar S Kalyan, winning 7-5.

With the match moving to a deciding set, Kalyan withdrew after losing the first game due to muscle cramps. Paul is set to play against the 6th seed, Md Fardeen from Bengal, in the pre-quarterfinals tomorrow.

Meanwhile, unseeded Raj Rishi Keshari caused the first upset of the tournament, defeating 8th seed Vashu Gupta of Uttar Pradesh 7-5, 6-3, securing his place in the pre-quarterfinals.

The tournament was inaugurated at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. Avneesh Gupta, VP TQM and Engineering & Projects, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Gupta praised the players’ efforts and lauded the Tata Steel Sports Department for organizing a national ranking tennis tournament. Hemant Gupta, Head Adventure Programme & Sports, Anand Menezes, Sr Coach Athletics, Rishi Wilson, Tournament Supervisor, AITA, and others were also present at the ceremony.
