A case of rape has been registered against a sub-inspector in Jamshedpur following a directive from the court, setting off an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a widow.
JAMSHEDPUR – A case of rape has been registered against Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Bimal Kumar, currently posted at the Bodam police station in the rural area of Jamshedpur.
The case was filed at the Azad Nagar police station following orders from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar.
The alleged incident occurred in the Azadnagar area, involving the forcible rape of a widow who worked as a labourer at a wedding.
The complainant had previously lodged a complaint against the sub-inspector in court.
Following a court order, an order was issued to register a First Information Report (FIR) and launch an investigation.
However, the case remained pending at the Birsanagar police station.
In light of the court’s directive, the Azad Nagar police have now registered an FIR and initiated an investigation into the matter.
The victim, a resident of Gamharia Mirudih in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district, alleges that she was raped by the inspector in a flat on Old Purulia Road, Azadnagar, on the night of April 16, 2022, while she was working at a wedding.
The inspector is accused of raping the woman over three days and keeping her locked in the flat. After the alleged assault, the inspector is said to have dropped the woman off at Jugsalai.
The issue escalated after the woman gave birth to a child on December 1, 2022, following the incident.
She subsequently lodged a complaint with the senior SP and the Azad Nagar police station, reporting the complete incident.
In response to the allegations, SI Bimal Kumar has claimed his innocence, stating that he is being falsely implicated in the case.
Azad Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rakesh Kumar confirmed the registration of case and said that necessary action will follow against the accused as per the law.
