Adityapur Police seize spurious foreign liquor worth 2.50 lakhs; smuggler arrested and driver on the run in a crackdown on the illegal liquor trade.
Seraikela – Adityapur Police in the Kharsawan district has achieved a significant breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on the illegal liquor trade. Acting on confidential information, the police successfully intercepted a pickup van carrying 27 cases of counterfeit foreign liquor, estimated to be worth around INR 2.50 lakhs.
The station in-charge Rajan Kumar revealed that his team had received a tip-off about a Tata Magic vehicle transporting the illicit cargo from the Chandil area.
The information was swiftly passed on to senior officers, and a team was assembled to verify the report.
The police stopped the pickup van, bearing registration number JH01DD- 6302, near Sapra turn.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered the 27 cases of spurious foreign liquor.
When asked to present the necessary documentation, both the driver, Rajesh Hembram, and another individual in the vehicle were unable to comply.
While being questioned by the authorities, Hembram managed to flee the scene, leaving his accomplice, Gopal Jonko, behind.
Jonko was arrested, and the vehicle and its illicit contents were subsequently seized by the police.
During the interrogation, Jonko revealed that the fake liquor was en route to Kharsawan.
He is now being sent to judicial custody following the questioning.
The raiding team, led by station in-charge Rajan Kumar, included ASI Abhishek Kumar, Raju Rana, Suman Saurabh, Vikas Kumar, and other police personnel.
The Adityapur Police Station’s efforts to apprehend the absconding driver are ongoing.
