Major eviction drive on Burmamines railway land, 35 structures demolished

Jamshedpur: In a joint eviction drive, the railway and district administration of Jamshedpur demolished at least 35 makeshift and pucca structures on railway land in Burmamines Muslim Bustee area.

The drive resulted in the demolition of 35 makeshift and permanent structures in the Muslim Bustee area.

According to the police, most structures had come up recently.

The bustee falls under the jurisdiction of Jamshedpur’s Burmamines police station.

The area had recently witnessed a gunfire incident and according to police sources the high crime rate in the area had become a cause of concern for the police.

According to police sources, many illegal businesses were also operating on railway property.

Due to a rise in criminal incidents, the district police and railway administration took action by demolishing 35 makeshift and permanent structures spread across 4,500 square feet of railway land.

The entire area was virtually turned into a police cantonment, with ASP Sudhanshu Jain leading the eviction drive and RPF personnel assisting his forces.

According to the police, the drive was launched in response to the recent rise in criminal activities in the area and also because many illegal structures were built recently in the area despite warning that encroachments on railway land would not be allowed.
