Messi all set to create history with maximum goals and most assists in FIFA World Cup

Messi has the opportunity to set the record for the highest number of goals and the highest number of assists in the World Cup as the only player able to achieve this in the 92-year history of the World Cup.

Argentina last won the World Cup in 1986. That World Cup was won with Diego Maradona. Diego, the famous football star, scored all the great goals in that event. He was also unique in assisting goals. But for a short time, he did not have the feat of being the highest scorer of the season and providing the most assists.

Maradona scored five goals in that World Cup. Assisted in a season-high five goals. But with Gary Lineker scoring six goals, he did not have the record for most goals and most assists in a single season.

This time, Messi has the opportunity to set the record for the highest goal and the highest assist in the World Cup as the only player in the 92-year history of the World Cup. He scored a joint season-high five goals. France’s Kylian Mbappe scored five goals equal to him.

Messi also contributed the joint-highest goal assist of the season. He is the maker of three goals. Portugal’s Bruno Fernandez, England’s Harry Kane and France’s Antonio Griezmann assisted in number of goals. Messi will surpass others if he scores one goal and assists one goal in the final. That will set a unique record in his name.

Lionel Messi won the 2014 World Cup Golden Ball. He became the best player of the tournament. This time too he has a chance to win the Golden Ball as the best player and the Golden Boot as the top scorer.

Earlier, Brazil’s Ronaldo won the Golden Boot in 2002 and the Golden Ball in the 1998 World Cup.

Diego Maradona narrowly missed the ‘double crown’ record.

Similarly, Germany’s Thomas Müller was on his way to becoming the highest goal scorer and highest assist in the 2010 World Cup.

Although Spain was the champion, Müller scored 5 goals jointly in that event. However, he won the Golden Boot in less than one match.

He jointly assisted in three goals in that event. However, Kaka did not have that record as he played one less match and gave three assists.
