Shardamani High School teacher arrested, Admn orders probe into Class IX student harassment charges

Jamshedpur : In a significant turn of events, the city police Saturday arrested the lady teacher of Shardamani Girls High School, Sakchi for compelling a class IX student of the school to strip in the name of checking for ‘chits’ during examination.

The student had later set herself on fire and had suffered 80 per cent burns. She is under treatment at TMH now.

A case was registered against the teacher C Das based on the statement of the student.

The student has reportedly said in her statement that she was forced to strip by the teacher in the presence of other students.

The teacher, on the other hand, has claimed innocence and has said that she was only discharging her duties as a teacher.

Meanwhile, the district administration has formed a committee to probe the entire matter. The DSE is also a part of the probe. The committee has been asked to submit its report within 24 hours.
On Saturday, members of a student outfit sat on a dharna at the office of the District Education Superintendent demanding action against the teacher.

At the same time, the people of Mukhi samaj also protested demanding the arrest of the accused teacher.

The seriously injured student has been admitted to Tata Main Hospital for treatment, where the girl is battling for her life.

Mukhi Samaj members and student organizations have also demanded that the administration bear the full cost of the treatment of the girl student.
