JMM MLAs demand 100% apprentice seats for locals

All JMM MLAs from East Singhbhum met Tata Steel officials at Chamaria Guest House on Tuesday and pressed for reserving 100% jobs in apprentice and other recruitments for youths from Jharkhand.

Jamshedpur: All four JMM MLAs from East Singhbhum today met Tata Steel officials at Chamaria Guest House and demanded that the company keep 100% seats in its apprentice recruitment and other jobs exclusively for the youths from Jharkhand. Tata Steel officials said that they would convey their demands to the senior management.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has been agitating against open vacancy for recruitment of Trade Apprentices in Tata Steel.

Last week, a number of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha members had demonstrated and blocked Tata Steel General Office gate for hours and submitted a memorandum to the management demanding preference to the youths of Jharkhand in recruitment.

They had also demanded that recruitment process at all levels be amended for giving preference to locals.

On Tuesday, all the MLAs of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha held a talk with the officials of Tata Steel at Chamaria Guest House and reiterated the demand to give preference to the youths of Jharkhand in recruitment drives.

They demanded that the recruitment criteria be reviewed.

After the talks, Ghatshila MLA Ramdas Soren told the media that 3 days’ time has been given to the company officials. After that JMM will decide its next strategy.

Jugsalai MLA Mangal Kalindi too echoed his sentiments and said that Tata Steel is in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. But the vacancies are open for outsiders. He said that all the MLAs of JMM are opposing it.

He said that if youths from other states get jobs here, where will the youth of this state go.

He said that the company is using the land, electricity, water, minerals from Jharkhand and it should not give jobs to outsiders.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha will not tolerate this, he said.

He said that in any case, the company will have to give jobs to the youth living in Jharkhand.

Officials of Tata Steel declined to speak to the media in this regard.

However, during the talks, they assured the MLAs that their demands would be conveyed to the top management.
