Sanjeev Acharya demands probe, action against officials for lathicharge on Dhanbad students

Jamshedpur: Sanjeev Acharya, National President of Purva Chhatra Sangh and convenor of Shaheed Smarak Nirman Samity Sanjeev Acharya has condemned the lathicharge on girl students in Dhanbad.

In a press release, Acharya said that the students had gone to meet the Jharkhand State Health and Disaster Minister Banna Gupta at Dhanbad DC Office. However, instead of meeting, they were lathicharged by the SDO and other officers as well as the police.

More than 12 students, including girl students, were injured in the incident.

Sanjeev Acharya demanded action against the guilty police officer.

He said that more than 12 students were injured in the lathi charge and most of the students had to be admitted to SNMMCH. The police have also detained dozens of students. Which is quite embarrassing.

He said that while on one hand, the Hemant Soren government of the state claims to be protectors of villagers, workers and students, on the other hand officers of the state are lathicharging students in the presence of Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta.

He said that the entire incident should be probed and guilty officials should be punished.

He said that if the government does not take action in the matter, it would lose the trust of the people and the students would be compelled to agitate against the government, Health Minister Banna Gupta as well as the Dhanbad district administration.

The lathicharge on the students has been widely criticised on social media too and all have condemned the manner in which the SDM himself attacked the girls, who were only demanding to see and meet the Health Minister Banna Gupta.

The students were protesting alleged large scale anomaliels in JAC Board exam results and wanted to apprise the Health Minister with their plight.
