Patient waiting for months for kidney transplant NoC

Family suffers as state health department sits on application for NOC

Jamshedpur: Unable to get an NoC for kidney transplan, Gajendra Singh, a chronic kidney patient feels that the government should allow ‘euthanasia’ for him if it can’t issue him an NoC for kidney transplant.

The doctors have advised him kidney transplant at the earliest, as both his kidneys have failed. For now, he is surviving on regular dialysis.

His wife Durga Singh has agreed to donate kidney to him. The hospital has asked him to produce an NoC from the state government.

The hospital management has even sent a letter to the director of the health department seeking a no objection certificate for kidney transplant for the patient.

However, the family has been unable to get an NoC for the last 8 months despite making rounds of different government offices.

The family is in deep distress and is getting no help from any corner.

Gajendra Singh’s son wanted to compete in Civil Services Examination. He was preparing for the exam in Delhi.

However, owing to father’s ill health, he had to quit his preparation and come back home. Despite having cleared preliminary test, he could not sit for the mains examination.

For around 8 months, he has been making rounds of health department from Jamshedpur to Ranchi and even went to the Health Minister’s office.

For a long time, he used to go to Ranchi every day and would return home in the evening.

He says that his application got the seal of the health minister, but somehow it could not get the signature of the health minister.

He has now sought help from BJP leader Vikas Singh.

The family was asked by the hospital to arrange Rs. 8.50 lakh.

The family sold off all its jewellery and kept its village land mortgage to arrange Rs. 8.50 lakh.

The family hoped that they would get the NoC soon and would go to CMC Vellore for kidney transplant.

However, NoC was not issued. And most of the money that they had was spent on dialysis every alternate day.

Son’s education remains incomplete and all his dreams to join civil services were dashed.

BJP leader Vikas Singh has assured him to extend all help and to apprise the minister, government and even the union health minister with his plight.
