Unusual Weddings Follow Crackdown on Hotels in Jharkhand Town

Key Points:

  • Police raid finds 14 couples in hotels in Garhwa
  • Families agree to immediate marriage to avoid jail
  • Couples wed on road without rituals or ceremony

JAMSHEDPUR – Several couples married on a public road in Garhwa after a police raid led to legal action and family intervention.

Authorities in Garhwa district conducted a crackdown on local hotels. However, officials found 14 couples in objectionable situations during inspections.

Meanwhile, the raid covered multiple hotels across the town area. These included well-known establishments and guest houses.

Police detained all individuals and brought them to the station. Moreover, officials began preparing legal proceedings against those involved.

However, four couples were identified as being in relationships. Their families soon arrived at the police station.

Meanwhile, parents requested authorities to avoid jail for their children. They agreed to solemnize marriages immediately.

Police then allowed conditional release after bond formalities. Consequently, the couples stepped outside the station premises.

Moreover, they exchanged garlands on the road without delay. The grooms applied sindoor, marking the marriages instantly.

There was no traditional ceremony, priest, or wedding procession. In contrast, the road itself became the wedding venue.

Meanwhile, the incident drew attention across the region, including nearby Ranchi. Locals discussed the unusual events at public places.

Authorities earlier raided hotels like SNC and RDX. They also inspected a rest house on Ranka Road.

Meanwhile, several accused were sent to jail the next day. Others were released based on mutual consent and family approval.

Local residents reacted positively to the development. Moreover, many said it could discourage exploitative relationships.

Some citizens stated it sends a strong social message. They added that accountability has increased due to such action.

Officials have not announced further action in the case. However, monitoring of hotels in the area is expected to continue.
