Zomato delivery boy beaten mercilessly in Mango

BJP leader Vikas Singh demands FIR against guilty Tiger Mobile jawans

Locals warn of foot march to SSP office if no action is taken

Jamshedpur: A Zomato valet returning after delivering order to a customer was beaten mercilessly Friday night near Rajasthan Bhavan, Dimna Road in Mango.

Zomato food delivery is a part of essential services and its valets are supposed to be a part of the fight against corona.

Jharkhand has not yet recovered from the shock of Corona. People are still trying to get life back on track and delivery boys of Zomato and other e-commerce companies have been doing a great service in keeping the supply chain services intact.

However, the police forces at the lower ranks live in their own world unmindful of their own duties, citizens and their rights.

According to information received, the victim Devendra Sahu works as a delivery boy with Zomato.

He supports his old parents with whatever he earns as a delivery boy.

Friday night too, he had delivered food to a customer and was returning home.

Little did he know that the brave jawans of Jharkhand police would be waiting for someone like him.

His only fault was that he overtook the patrolling jawans of Tiger Mobile on the road.

Angry jawans chased him and caught him and before he could say anything in his defence, he was beaten mercilessly with lathis. Not an inch of his body was left that did not bear mark of lathi.

The angry jawans also snatched his mobile phone and smashed it.

Crying Devendra reached his home badly assaulted.

On Saturday, BJP leader Vikas Singh reached Ulidih police station and demanded that FIR be registered against the erring jawans and action be action against them.

Vikas Singh said that if FIR under section 307 with charges of attempt to murder are not pressed against the guilty jawans, then the locals would take out a foot march upto SSP office to protest the cruelty against an innocent citizen doing his duty.

Police cruelty against citizens in the name of traffic checking is not a new phenomenon.

Traffic police jawans are not very prompt in controlling traffic wherever there is a traffic snarl, but they are very prompt in ensnaring citizens even for a minor lapse.

Ulidih police have refused to comment on the incident.

Zomato delivery boys have to work under a lot of adversities. There have been several incidents in the past where money and food items were snatched from them by ruffians in different parts of the city.

While they have to deliver food in different parts of the city even at late hours at night, they get no security and safety from any corner. Neither from their own company, nor from police or citizens themselves.
