Distribution of New Cycles Leaves Students Struggling in Rajnagar
Jharkhand Govt’s Cycle Scheme Faces Criticism for Incomplete Preparations
Key Points:
-
Cycles distributed to 9th and 10th students at Rajnagar school.
-
Tires were deflated, forcing students to push cycles to nearby shops.
-
Additional repairs incurred unexpected expenses for many students.
JAMSHEDPUR – Students of SS Plus Two High School, Rajnagar, were handed new bicycles under the Jharkhand government’s welfare scheme, but the joy was short-lived as the cycles lacked basic readiness. None of the bicycles had air in the tires, creating difficulties for the students.
Recipients were forced to push their cycles to nearby Panchgar market shops to inflate the tires. However, several cycles were found to have additional issues, including missing valves and bolts, and in some cases, jammed wheel rims. Students were compelled to pay out of their pockets for repairs, adding to their frustration.
One of the students shared, "We were excited to receive new cycles, but the lack of preparation spoiled the moment. Many of us spent extra money just to make them usable."
The scheme, aimed at aiding students in their commute, came under criticism for poor execution. Parents and teachers have urged the welfare department to ensure proper quality checks and readiness before distribution.
While the intent of the cycle distribution program remains praiseworthy, the lack of attention to basic functionality has overshadowed the initiative’s benefits.
