Accused absconds from police custody in Chaibasa, 4 policemen suspended
Chaibasa: A person apprehended by Chaibasa police for attacking a couple in Kumbia village in Chhota Nagra police station area managed to escape from police custody. 4 policemen are now facing action and have been suspended.
According to sources, a police team had apprehended two miscreants on the charges of assaulting and injuring a couple in Kumbia village. However, while taking him to judicial custody one of the accused managed to escape.
The absconding accused has been identified as Rengo Manjhi of Kumbia village. Chhota Nagra police are now trying to trace him.
Sources said that a couple were joking with the son of Rengo Manjhi Monday night. This infuriated Rengo Manjhi and his cousin Majura Manjhi alias Jaba Manjhi. They shot arrow at the woman Phoolo Manjhi and her husband Dursu Manjhi was assaulted with a stick.
On Tuesday morning, when the matter reached the Chhotanagara police station, the police registered case against both the accused.
Later, the Chotanagara police arrested both the accused and were taking them to the court after conducting a covid test on on them on Wednesday. On reaching Jamdi village on the way, Rengo stopped the police vehicle after complaining of vomiting. When the car stopped, he got down and escaped, dodging the police.
Taking a serious view of the matter, the SP Ajay Linda suspended the SI Pawan Kumar Yadav, Assistant Sub Inspector Vinod Kumar Singh, Havildar Budhan Yadav and constable Pramod Minj of Chhota Nagra police station with immediate effect. During the period of suspension, these people will stay at Police Center Chaibasa.
