Hindu Mandir burnt and destroyed by Islamists in Pakistan
New Delhi: A historic and important Hindu temple in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province was set on fire by a mob of Islamists. No police or government machinery interventions were visible at the place.
News agencies reported the district police officer of the area Irfan Marwat as saying that the mob demolished the new construction as well as the old structure of the temple.
The same temple was also attacked and demolished in 1997. However, after the intervention of the Supreme Court of Pakistan the locals had agreed to allow reconstruction of the demolished temple. Even after the reconstruction, a dispute was raised over land by the locals.
Videos doing rounds in social media showed hundreds of people shouting slogans and setting the mandir structure on fire.
