Party Warns Cadres That Deleted Voters Will Lose Access to Government Schemes
Key Points:
- Bokaro district leads state in voter name deletions under SIR process
- JMM holds BLA-2 training at Bokaro Town Hall with minister, MLA, general secretary
- Party accuses BJP of using SIR to topple Hemant Soren government
BOKARO — The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha held a training camp for BLA-2 booth-level agents in Bokaro on Wednesday, raising alarm over large-scale voter name deletions being carried out under the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision process.
The training was held at the Town Hall in Sector One of Bokaro. It was attended by state minister Yogendra Prasad, MLA Umakant Rajak, and party general secretary Vinod Pandey.
The event focused on voter SIR mapping procedures and on keeping agents informed about which names were being struck off the electoral rolls.
According to the party, Bokaro district has recorded the highest number of voter deletions in the state. Moreover, within the district, the Bokaro assembly constituency has seen the largest number of names removed from voter rolls.
Party leaders warned workers that if a voter’s name was removed from the electoral register, that person would stand to lose access to government welfare schemes. “If attention is not paid now, once the process is complete, even the government will be unable to reverse it,” one of the leaders said.
Meanwhile, the leaders alleged that the BJP had used the electoral revision process as a political tool in West Bengal and Bihar, and was attempting the same strategy in Jharkhand to unseat the Hemant Soren-led administration.
They called on all ground-level workers to mobilise immediately to prevent voter names from being deleted, describing it as a direct threat to the government’s survival.
According to voter mapping data compiled up to May 22, the district-wide picture was as follows:
| Assembly Constituency | Total Voters | Mapped | Unmapped | Percentage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gomia | 3,19,678 | 2,62,104 | 57,574 | 81.99% |
| Bermo | 3,31,481 | 2,40,273 | 91,208 | 72.48% |
| Bokaro | 5,96,739 | 3,15,211 | 2,81,528 | 52.82% |
| Chandankiyari | 2,86,045 | 2,30,325 | 55,720 | 80.52% |
| Total | 15,33,943 | 10,47,913 | 4,86,030 | 68.31% |
Of the district’s total 15,33,943 voters, mapping had been completed for 10,47,913 as of that date. Overall mapping stood at 68.31%.
Gomia assembly constituency led the district at 81.99%, while the Bokaro constituency trailed significantly at 52.82%, with 2,81,528 voters yet to be mapped.
However, Chandankiyari had achieved 80.52% mapping, and Bermo stood at 72.48%. On the whole, 4,86,030 voters across the district remained unmapped.
The JMM-led alliance in Jharkhand has been particularly sensitive to electoral roll changes since the party returned to power under Hemant Soren after the 2024 assembly elections. The NDA, on the other hand, has backed the Election Commission’s SIR drive as a legitimate voter list purification exercise.
