- Leaders demand repeal of four labor codes
JAMSHEDPUR – A torch rally was held in the city ahead of the nationwide strike on February 12 called by joint trade unions across Jharkhand and India.
The procession was organised by joint trade unions in Jamshedpur. It aimed to mobilise workers for the February 12 shutdown.
Meanwhile, leaders from several labour organisations joined the march. They gathered in large numbers during the evening event.
The rally began from Ambagan in Sakchi. It moved toward the Sakchi Bada Gol Chakkar.
However, the march concluded peacefully at the roundabout. Police presence was minimal during the event.
Moreover, speakers addressed workers at the concluding point. They outlined key demands linked to labour reforms.
Ambuj Thakur said the unions oppose four labour codes. He demanded their immediate withdrawal.
On the other hand, he also raised concerns over what he described as anti-worker provisions. He urged employees to support the strike call.
The February 12 strike has been announced across Jharkhand. It is also expected to affect several sectors nationwide.
Meanwhile, trade unions across India have opposed recent labour reforms. They argue the codes dilute worker protections.
However, the central government has maintained that the four labour codes aim to simplify regulations. The reforms consolidate 29 existing labour laws.
Moreover, the codes relate to wages, industrial relations, social security, and occupational safety. Implementation has faced resistance in several states.
Organisers in the city said preparations are ongoing. They expect participation from industrial and unorganised workers.
Meanwhile, similar mobilisations have been reported in other districts. Union leaders plan meetings before the strike date.
