JAMSHEDPUR – Khalin Joshi and Veer Ahlawat emerged as joint leaders after the opening round of the Tata Open 2025 at Beldih and Golmuri golf courses.
The INR 2 crore PGTI season-finale began on December 25. Both golfers carded seven-under 63 at Golmuri Golf Club. However, the first round remained incomplete on Thursday.
Half the field played at Beldih Golf Club. On the other hand, the remaining players competed at Golmuri. In addition, both groups will switch venues for round two.
Bangladesh’s Md Siddikur Rahman shot six-under 64 at Golmuri. He occupied the third position in clubhouse standings. Meanwhile, play was suspended due to fading light.
Ten players from the 126-strong field couldn’t finish Thursday. They will resume their rounds at 7 am Friday. Moreover, the tournament features competitive action across two courses.
Veer Ahlawat secured eight birdies against one bogey. The two-time winner this year topped the leaderboard. Furthermore, he won the Tata Steel Tour Championship in Jamshedpur last year.
“I’ve played well in Jamshedpur over past years,” Veer said. He knows both courses well and adapts effectively. His tee shots were accurate throughout the round.
“I made most of my chances on greens,” he added. He targets five or six-under at Beldih Friday. This could position him favorably at halfway stage.
Khalin Joshi also mixed eight birdies with a bogey. He shared the lead with Veer at day’s end. In addition, both golfers displayed exceptional putting skills.
“It’s important to adapt quickly to greens,” Khalin said. He putted well within the five-feet range Thursday. Moreover, his performance reflected strong course management.
The Pro-Am event preceded the main tournament. Joshua Seale’s team had won that competition. However, the main championship features tougher competition.
The tournament carries significant prize money for participants. Sports enthusiasts are following the event closely. Furthermore, Jamshedpur’s golf courses provide challenging layouts.
