JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel has been recognised as Gold Employer by India Workplace Equality Index 2025.
The recognition marks the fifth consecutive year for the company. More than 100 organisations participated in the 6th edition. Moreover, the IWEI Summit & Awards evaluated LGBT+ inclusion efforts.
The company’s policies embed diversity and inclusion throughout operations. Talent systems reflect commitment to equitable workplace practices. However, leadership practices prioritise employee empowerment and engagement.
Atrayee Sanyal serves as Chief People Officer of Tata Steel Group. She stated the recognition reinforces the company’s progressive employer position. Furthermore, the organisation goes beyond compliance in diversity efforts.

The company launched all-women shift at Noamundi mining operations. This represents a global first in mining sector. Besides, all-women firefighting crew was inducted in Jamshedpur.
Women employees work across all three shifts at Kalinganagar. Enhanced Parental Benefit Policy provides equitable caregiving support. Moreover, caregiving responsibilities are recognised as shared employee responsibility.
Gender Reassignment Policy enables compassionate affirmation support. The policy provides confidential access to eligible employees. However, the DE&I journey began in 2015 with MOSAIC.
The initiative drives inclusion across multiple diversity dimensions. Women, LGBTQIA+, affirmative action, and persons with disabilities are covered. Furthermore, five pillars guide implementation strategy consistently.
Sensitisation, infrastructure, recruitment, retention and celebrations form core pillars. India Workplace Equality Index serves as comprehensive benchmarking tool. Besides, it measures employers’ progress on LGBT+ inclusion.
Nine key areas are evaluated in the assessment. Policies, benefits, employee lifecycle, and leadership are measured. Moreover, community engagement forms integral evaluation component.
Tata Steel has consistently ranked among top employers. The company’s inclusivity efforts earned previous IWEI recognition. However, workplace rankings reflect sustained commitment to employee welfare.
