Ten Blackbucks Die from Infection at Tata Zoo

Five More Quarantined as Administration Places Facility on High Alert

Key Points:

  • Infection claims lives of ten blackbucks at Tata Zoo in Jamshedpur
  • Five additional blackbucks quarantined to prevent further spread of disease
  • Carcasses sent to Ranchi and Odisha for laboratory examination

JAMSHEDPUR – An infection outbreak at Tata Zoo has resulted in the deaths of ten blackbucks, prompting authorities to place the entire facility on high alert.

Zoo administration has quarantined five other blackbucks. The measure aims to prevent further spread of infection. However, concerns remain about the rapid transmission rate.

Special monitoring is being conducted for all animals. Both domestic and wild species are under surveillance. Three doctors form a specialized team for continuous observation.

Any suspicious symptoms trigger immediate treatment protocols. The medical team maintains close watch on animal health. Moreover, staff members have received strict vigilance instructions.

Zoo management stated the infection spreads rapidly among captive animals. Weakened immunity prevented blackbucks from fighting the disease. Consequently, the animals succumbed to the infection.

Dead blackbuck carcasses were sent for examination. Samples went to Ranchi and Odisha zoos. Laboratory tests will determine the exact cause of infection.

Preliminary investigations suggest a possible source of transmission. Crows and kites may be spreading the infection. Bird movements into the facility are under scrutiny.

Tata Zoo Director Dr. Naeem Akhtar confirmed the situation. He stated conditions are under control. All necessary safety measures are being implemented.

The zoo has intensified its sanitation procedures. Cleanliness standards have been elevated across the premises. External bird entry is being strictly monitored.

Staff vigilance has been heightened throughout the facility. Administration is consulting experts continuously. No negligence will be tolerated following the deaths.

The outbreak has raised concerns about animal welfare. Zoo authorities are taking comprehensive preventive steps. Previous animal deaths at the facility have prompted stricter protocols.

Earlier incidents include wildlife casualties in the region. An elephant calf died recently in nearby areas. Additionally, a rogue bull case was reported in Sakchi. Emergency protocols remain in place for all species.
