SERAIKELA – A youth from Ghordanegi was detained during an anti-crime check conducted by Kandra police in Seraikela district. The accused, identified as Brihaspati Mahato, has been remanded to judicial custody following his confession to stealing a bike during a local fair.
The arrest occurred on Saturday evening when police, acting under the directives of the Superintendent of Police, intercepted Mahato as he attempted to flee a routine checkpoint near Chandil. According to Kandra Police Station Officer Vinod Murmu, Mahato’s suspicious behavior, coupled with the absence of a number plate on his motorcycle, prompted officers to apprehend him.
Confession Reveals Theft History
Upon questioning, Mahato revealed that he had stolen the bike during the Dussehra fair in Khunti. Further investigation uncovered his past involvement in similar crimes, including a prior arrest by Bundu police for bike theft.
Police Statement and Legal Action
“Mahato admitted to the theft during the interrogation. Following verification, we have forwarded him to judicial custody,” stated Officer Murmu.
